PREREQUISITES

MA 141 with grade of C or better. Every student may verify that he/she has the proper prerequisites for this course by checking the flowchart in this site .

CONTENT

This course covers the following subjects of the textbook: Integration and Techniques, Applications of Integration, Differential Equations, Infinite Sequences and Series.

HOMEWORK

Homework will be through Web-Assign . It is the student's responsibility to complete all the assignements by WebAssign program. The homepage for the WedAssign is here . In general extensions for the due dates for the WA homework assignements will not be given. In case there are extra problems that are recommended on top of the WA assignments, those problems will be posted on web page homework web page under the course site, but these extra problems will not be collected. Tutoring service provided by the university is available. The schedule and the detailed information on tutoring can be found on the web.

MAPLEWORK

MA 241 students should study the LESSONS that accompany the Homework assignments before beginning the homework. The address for all Maple related materials is at Calculus with Maple Homepage. All student should view the "Introductory Materials" on the Calculus with Maple Homepage at the above URL. In particular students should view the "Rules for Completing Maple Homework" in the Introductory Materials. There is also a QuickTime video "Introduction to the Maple Program" that explains what the Maple program is all about and what is expected of the calculus student. Students should use either Maple 10.04 or any version of Maple 11 to complete your Maple homework. Older versions of Maple often will not display the worksheets properly. There will be 2 two-hour help labs each week in G-108 starting next week. The schedule for Tuesdays and Thursdays is listed on the Calculus with Maple Homepage under the link "Maple Help Labs" on the Announcements page. The lab sessions of all the sections under Math 241 will be supervised by Professor Larry Norris. All students should read the "MA241 Announcements" that are on the Calculus with Maple Homepage.

MIDTERMS

There will be four 55 minute midterm tests: the first on Thursday (09/11/2008), the second on Thursday (10/02/2008), the third on Thursday (10/30/2008) and the fourth on Thursday (11/20/2008). All the tests will be at HA 228, 3:35 pm - 4:30 pm. There will NOT be any make-up midterm. No books, notes, calculators nor any other aids is allowed/needed at the midterm exams.

FINAL EXAM

The instructor is not allowed to schedule a make-up final exam. Students must arrange their schedule to avoid the conflicts. The final exam will be given on Thursday, December 11th 2008, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at HA 228. The final exam is cumulative, including the whole material covered throughout the semester. No books, notes, calculators nor any other aids is allowed/needed at the final.

GRADE

WebAssign homework 15 %, Maplework 5 % four midterms 50 % together, Final 30 %. All the exams are curved including the final and the letter grades.
