Transferring into MA or AMA from another major at NCSU. (Follow this link if you are interested in the Financial Mathematics concentration.)
NC State undergraduates who are interested in transferring into the BS program in Mathematics (MA) or Applied Mathematics (AMA) should contact the Director of Undergraduate Programs for the Department of Mathematics.
Currently, students who meet all of the following conditions are assured of acceptance.
- Completion of at least 30 credit hours at NC State that count toward degree requirements in the chosen curriculum.
- A grade point average of 3.0 in all science, mathematics, and engineering courses [2] .
- A grade point average of 3.0 in all science and mathematics courses [2] .
- Completion of MA141, MA241, ENG101, CH101, and CH102, with a grade better than B in each course.
- If the student has already taken any of the following courses, a grade of B or better is required in each: MA242, MA225, MA341, MA351, CSC112, CSC114, CSC116, PY205, PY208, ST371, and ST372.
Students who do not meet all of these conditions may be admitted with departmental approval.
Students who are not accepted into a Department of Mathematics curriculum will be counseled about how to achieve admission.
[1] The overall grade point average is based on all courses taken at NC State, even if some of the courses have been approved for a course repeat without penalty.
[2] The science and math grade point average is based on all courses on the transcript from the following the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, and the College of Engineering.
