Transferring Into the Department of Mathematics

Transferring into MA or AMA from another major at NCSU.

NC State undergraduates who are interested in transferring into the BS program in Mathematics (MA) or Applied Mathematics (AMA) should contact the Director of Undergraduate Programs for the Department of Mathematics.

Requirements for transfer admission to either BS program:

  1. Completion of the following courses, each with at least a B-, and an overall grade average of 2.9 [1]
  2. MA 141, MA 241, MA 242, MA 225 , and MA 341

  3. Completion of the following classes with a grade average of 2.5 [1]
  4. ENG 101

    PY 205 and PY 208 (or PY 201 and PY 202)

  5. An overall NCSU GPA of 2.9 or better [2]

[1] The grade average is based on the most recent attempts of courses. For example, if a grade of B is the most recent grade for a course, then the previous grade(s) should be ignored. The student must calculate their own GPA before applying to the program. (Refer to REG 02.50.3.)

[2] Students who do not meet criteria (3) may be admitted with departmental approval.
