Professor Hubert Park joined NC State in 1934 and retired in 1978 as associate head of the department after 44 years of dedicated service. After retirement he continued teaching part-time for 13 more years, making a total of 57 years of service to the department and the university. He quickly established himself as one of the department's most effective teachers and was officially recognized several times during his career: he received the outstanding teacher award in 1965 and 1968 and was named an alumni distinguished professor for 1975-1977. In 1982 Hubert received the Alumni Award of Merit and in 1986 he received the Watauga Medal, the highest honor for service the University awards. Because of his deep and sincere regard for the students at NC State, he and his good wife, Mary Alice Park, have generously established an award in their names. The award is made to a rising junior or senior in mathematics, who has demonstrated high academic ability. Financial need is also taken into consideration.
