Professor Roberts C. Bullock joined NC State as an assistant professor in 1935. In 1939 he was promoted to Associate Professor and in 1946 to Professor. In 1969 his former students ranked him in the top five percent of the faculty as an instructor "who contributed most to my education at NC State." He retired as a full-time faculty member in 1973. Professor Bullock was an important member of the graduate faculty and did considerable research on rocket development during the 1950's. Prior to the Department obtaining the Ph.D. program, he directed numerous students in the masters program, which in those days required a thesis. In addition to his extensive work as a member of the graduate faculty, he was also deeply interested in undergraduate education and these awards represent that interest. The awards are named in memory of his late wife, Pauline, and his late daughter, Rebecca. They are given to outstanding mathematics majors who have also demonstrated an ability in the use of the English language.
