Invitation for 2009 Todd Fuller Contest
September 16, 2009

Dear Math Faculty,

It is my pleasure to invite all high schools in Wake County to participate in the 2009 Todd Fuller Mathematics Competition at North Carolina State University. The competition will take place October 17th 2009 in SAS Hall, formerly named the Mathematics & Statistics Building from 9:00am to 11:00am in room 2203. This is a new location from years past. The team and individual results will be posted by November 9, 2009.

We request that each school use the attached form to nominate six (6) high-school seniors and one (1) alternate prior to the October 5 deadline. In addition to recognizing the highest-scoring teams, we will also provide cash awards for the three highest individual scores. If your alternate is not needed, we still invite the alternates to participant in the contest. They are still eligible for competing in individual awards; however, their score will not count toward the team score.

The competition will begin promptly at 9:00am in room 2203 SAS Hall. Paper and pencils will be provided. Books and notes will not be permitted. Contestants will be allowed to use a SAT-1 permissible calculator. The test consist of two parts, one part being multiple choice and the other part requiring you to “show your work” in an organized manner. The time allotted for the exam itself will be one hour; the additional hour is intended for administration and refreshments following. You will be finished by 11:00am, allowing you time to attend the last 3 hours of Open House (http://www.ncsu.edu/openhouse/). You may find information about the contest on the website (http://www.math.ncsu.edu/undergrad/ncsu_contests/) or call 513-2292.

I look forward to seeing you and your students. Good Luck.

Sincerely,

John E. Franke John R. Griggs
