Invitation for 2008 Todd Fuller Contest
September 24, 2008

Dear Math Faculty,

It is my pleasure to invite all High Schools in Wake County to participate in the 2008 Todd Fuller Mathematics Competition at North Carolina State University. The competition will take place October 18th 2008 in Harrelson Hall from 9:00am to 11:00am in room 307. This is a new time from years past. The team and individual results will be posted by November 10, 2008.

We request that each school use the attached form to nominate six (6) high-school seniors and one (1) alternate prior to the October 6 deadline. In addition to recognizing the highest-scoring teams, we will also provide cash awards for the three highest individual scores. Scholarships will be offered to individuals who rank highly in the competition and who are accepted into the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at North Carolina State University. Eight students were awarded scholarships last year. (Students planning to apply for admission to North Carolina State University should submit a completed application to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by November 1, 2008 in order to be eligible for additional scholarships.)

The competition will begin promptly at 9:00am in room 307 Harrelson Hall. Paper and pencils will be provided. Books and notes will not be permitted. Contestants will be allowed to use a SAT-1 permissible calculator. The test consist of two parts, one part being multiple choice and the other part requiring you to "show your work" in an organized manner. The time allotted for the exam itself will be one hour; the additional hour is intended for administration and refreshments following. You will be finished by 11:00am, allowing you time to attend the last 2 hours of Open House. You may find information about the contest on the website http://www.math.ncsu.edu/undergrad/ncsu_contests/ or call 513-2292.

I look forward to seeing you and your students. Good Luck.

Sincerely,

John E. Franke John R. Griggs
