Lowell Putnam Competition
The Putnam Exam is a national math
exam held the first Saturday in December. Doing
well on the exam strengthens both graduate school
and job applications and can be of financial benefit
as well (see the Levine-Anderson
Award). The Putnam Seminar, MA 444, is a one
credit pass/fail course offered in the fall by Dr.
Lin,
Dr. Ramsay, Dr.Hong,
Dr. Putcha, Dr.
Tsynkov, and
Dr. Koh to help students prepare for the exam.
COMAP
Math Modeling Competition
The COMAP Math Modeling Contest is
a national contest in which teams of three students
solve one of two possible problems (one discrete
and one continous problem) over a four day period
in February. Teams from NC State have often participated
and usually do well.
AWM
Essay Contest
The Association for Women in Mathematics
sponsors a contest for biographical essays about
contemporary women mathematicians and statisticians.
Your participation in this contest might might help
qualify you for NC State's Rebecca
Bullock Scholarship. The deadline for submissions
is in October.
Virginia
Tech Regional Mathematics Contest
The Virginia Tech Regional Mathematics
Contest is sponsored each fall by the Mathematics
Department at Virginia Tech. More than 130 colleges
and universities throughout VA, DC, GA, IL, MD,
NJ, NY, OH, NC, PA, SC, TN, WV and other states
are invited to participate each year.
