Choosing English

The freshman English requirement at NC State is one 4-hour course, ENG 101.

(starting Fall 2009 or later) There are two opportunities to have ENG 101 on your schedule.

  1. About half of the freshmen classwill be pre-registered by Registration & Records for ENG101 in the Fall semester. If you pre-register for no more than 15 credit hours, and you will have a 50% chance of being put into a section of ENG 101 before Orientation. If ENG 101 appears in your schedule, don’t drop it unless you need ENG 100 or you place out of ENG 101.
  2. The other opportunity to register for ENG 101 happens after Orientation starts. Once the pre-registration for ENG 101 is complete, restrictions will be lifted on registering for the course. As your classmates modify their schedule, some students will drop ENG 101. You can then add it to your schedule. This opportunity will likely begin on or before the date of the first NSO.

If you need ENG 100, be sure to take it your fist semester at NCSU.
