MS Degree
In Applied Math
-
NA students interested in obtaining a masters degree would
pursue the M.S. degree in Applied Mathematics. This
degree requires 30 hours of course
work, and at least 6 hours (2 courses) in mathematics at the
700 level selected from an approved list of courses.
Students entering the program with
deficiencies in their undergraduate preparation may need
to take additional undergraduate courses without
credit.
-
Each M.S. student works on a project which carries three
hours of credit. A written report on the project is
presented at the final oral exam which generally includes
a short lecture describing the project.
-
For NA students, the course work is divided among
core mathematics, an outside minor, and additional
mathematics courses which are relevant to the minor
area. Some expertise in a computing language is
required.
-
All NA students take the numerical analysis sequence
MA580 and MA780 in addition to one course from an applied computational area.
In Other Areas
-
MS degrees in other areas are also possible,
and the degree requirements vary with the program.
