Getting Help in MA 114 online

Dr. Page
Dr. Lavon B. Page
Professor

Dr. Page is the professor for the class. If you have questions about the class, or issues related to your enrollment or grade in the class, contact Dr. Page. Dr. Page was one of the first faculty at NCSU to begin delivering classes via the Internet. The MA 114 class was first offered online during the fall semester of 1997. WebAssign has been used by the class since 1999.

The quickest way to contact Dr. Page is via e-mail at the adddress shown below. However, questions about homework assignments should go to Jenn rather than to Dr. Page, and the quickest and most efficient method for getting help is to use the "Ask Your Teacher" feature in WebAssign.

Jennifer George, Teaching Assistant
Jenn Burt
Math Instructor

Jenn is the source of help via the "Ask Your Teacher" feature in WebAssign. Jennifer has worked with this online MA 114 courses for many years, and she is a graduate of the NCSU College of Education. Direct any questions you have about the homework to Jennifer, preferably by using "Ask Your Teacher". Jenn will almost always respond within 24 hours, and often sooner. But we have a standing rule that neither Jenn nor Dr. Page will provide last minute help for homework on the day that it is due. We encourage you to get an early start on assignments and to seek help (if needed) early enough to make good use of whatever help you obtain.

The way to succeed in this class is to get an early start on all the homework. Don't wait until the night before the homework is due.

The best way to get online help with the homework is to use the "Ask Your Teacher" link found at the bottom of each WebAssignment. If you submit your questions this way, then Jennifer has an easy way to access your assignment and respond to your question. Sending questions via e-mail is less efficient.

If I ask a question via the "Ask Your Teacher" link, where do I get the response? After you post your question, when you return to the WebAssignment you will find an "Ask Your Teacher" at the TOP of your assignment. Beside that you will see a comment indicating whether anyone has responded to you, and if so you can click the link to see the response.

Extensions: If an assignment is less than two weeks past due, you can request an "automatic" extension which allows you 48 additional hours to work on the assignment (starting when you file the request). During this extension period you obtain 3/4 of the original point value for all additional work. So you don't lose any points by requesting an extension, you just obtain less than full credit for the late work. With each assignment you can obtain a maximum two of these 48-hour extensions. (Extensions end 48 hours after you request them or two weeks after the due date, which ever comes first. So to receive the full 48 hours you need to request the extension within 12 days of the due date.)

If you are e-mailing any of us about a WebAssignment, always identify the WebAssignment and always include your last name. This will almost always lead to a quicker response to your question.
