| Students entering the graduate program in mathematics or applied mathematics are expected to have a bachelor's degree in a major that requires a substantial amount of undergraduate course work in mathematics. This course work should include a year sequence in analysis or advanced calculus (beyond the beginning freshmen-sophomore level sequence in calculus) and a year sequence in linear and modern algebra. Students without this experience in analysis and algebra can make up this material, generally by taking undergraduate courses that are not counted toward the graduate degree. Generally, students applying for admission are expected to have at least a B average (3.0 GPA) in undergraduate mathematics courses.
Recommended undergraduate course work for the concentration in computational mathematics includes one semester each of partial differential equations, a programming language, numerical analysis, and basic computer organization.
To initiate the admission procedure, a student uses the link to the On-line Graduate Application. Information from the on-line application will be available to the Director of Graduate programs and the Graduate Secretary of the Mathematics Department. To apply for financial assistant, indicate your interest in the on-line application form. There is no seperate application for financial assistance.
