GRADUATE INFO
BS/MS Degree Program
This BS/MS degree program is designed to provide a student in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics a means to complete the requirements for both degrees in a period of 5 years. The key feature of the program is that a student can count up to 12 hours of graduate-level courses toward both the BS and the MS degrees in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics.

A detailed description of the requirements and application procedure may be found in Section 3.12 of the Graduate Administrators Handbook.

A student in the BS program in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics who

(1a) started at NC State and has completed 75 to 96 credit hours, including advanced placement credit, or

(1b) transferred to NC State and has completed at least two semesters, with at least 24 credit hours, as a full-time student at NC State; and

(2) has completed all non-elective required courses in mathematics, humanities and social sciences, and science and math related subjects; and

(3) has a minimum accumulated grade point average of 3.5 at NC State

may apply for admission to Graduate School and permission to have up to 12 credit hours of graduate-level course work during the senior year count toward the MS degree.

Such a request must be approved by the directors of both the Undergraduate and the Graduate Programs of the Mathematics Department. They in turn will recommend this course of action to the
Graduate School.

After the student receives the BS degree, the student may be officially admitted into the MS program in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics. After admission to an MS program, the designated courses
in which the student earned grades of B or better may be applied toward the requirements of that degree.

GREs are not required for admission to the BS/MS program. However, it is recommended that students considering graduate study past the MS, or who wish to be considered for a TA while they complete the MS, take the GREs during their senior year.
