Non-Fall Start Date

Q: Do you admit students with a Spring or Summer start date?

A: Yes; however, the main reason for a non-Fall start date would be to fill in some of the expected pre-requisites for the program.

Qualifications

Q: I'm really interested in the financial mathematics program, however, being that I'm not a math or statistics major, I haven't meet all the prerequisites for the program. Would I have a chance of being accepted into the program?

A: Yes, you can still apply. It is good to contact us as we are considering your application. We may arrange for a provisional admission so you can fill in some of the expected background before you start the core classes. This may result you taking longer to earn your degree than some of the other students.

Application Deadline

Q: I have started the application but I have missed the deadline for international students. I have given GRE general test, but not GRE subject Test. I have a query, that is it still possible of me to apply to MS in Financial Mathematics program for FALL 2011.

A: Yes, you can still apply.

Admission Decision Inquiries

Q: When will I know the admission decision?

A: Individual inquiries into the status of your application interrupt the process, and have a negative impact on your chance of admission. Here are the phases of the admission process.
Phase 1. File an application online at the ApplyYourself website. If there are any missing materials, candidates are notified via the email address in the application of the deficiency.
Phase 2. Early in February, representatives of the program make a recommendation regarding admission to the graduate school.
Phase 3. Applicants are notified via the ApplyYourself portal and via the email address in their application.

Applications completed after the full consideration deadline will be considered as time permits.

Q: My application for admission was denied. What does "not competitive with the applicant pool mean"?

A: We receive over 200 applications for the 20 positions for new students. Applications are considered as a whole, so the particular attribute that caused an application to be denied cannot, in general, be identified.

Are my qualifications adequate?

Q: Are my qualifications adequate? Would you look at [ what I am sending you], and let me know if I shoudl apply?

A: We do not prescreen applications. If you wish to be considered for admission to the program, apply using the link at the "Requirements" webpage. All your application materials should be sent through the web portal. Please do not email us your credentials. The only way to have your application screened is by submitting an application using the link provided.

GRE Subject Test

Q: Is the GRE Subject Test required?

A: No. The GRE subject test is not required. This, and other information about the requirements can be discovered using the 'search' box at the bottom of the main web-page.

3-year bachelor's degree

Q: Is a 3 year bachelors (BS) degree acceptable for admission to the MFM program?

A: yes -- any BS degree can be used to satisfy the admissions requirement. A 3-year degree is acceptable.
