The Math department provides free printer access to our graduate students and faculty. The printers can only be printer from math graduate labs or faculty offices.
If you ARE NOT on a machine that prints to the math dept. printer
Make sure you have printquota, this can be checked:
- On UNIX - type lpquota in your xterm window
- On Windows NT - click on the $ icon in the far right bottom corner
If your balance is 0, you will need to purchase print quota from WolfCopy at DH Hill Library or Adminstrative Services 1.
But you still want to print, then you will need to run a terminal session or use the xterm window on a LINUX, UNIX, or MAC. they will type in ssh loginid@mathdialup.ncsu.edu ***If they are on a PC, they need to download a program called putty and choose ssh and the server is theirloginid@mathdialup.ncsu.edu .***
You will be prompted for their login/ and or password
The file you want to print must be in a postscript format. In the application select file - print - print to file - and call it filename.ps (the .ps is the important part)
In the terminal window, type lpr -Pha245@ink.math.ncsu.edu filename.ps
If you want to send it to the color it will be lpr -Pha245c@ink.math.ncsu.edu filename.ps
To view the print queue, lpq -Pha245@ink.math.ncsu.eduIf you ARE on a machine that prints to the math dept. printer
If you are on a Unix computer, you can print by logging into the math server by typing the following in your xterm/terminal window ssh loginid@mathdialup.ncsu.edu and replacing login with your university unity id.You will be prompted for your login and password. To print your file, type lpr -Pha245@ink.math.ncsu.edu filename.psIf you are on a mac, you can connect to the printer in HA 245 by double clicking on your Mac Hard Drive, choose Applications, then Utilities, and select Printer Setup Utility. Choose Add while holding down th option button, and you will get a pull down menu, select Advanced. Notice a new pull down menu appears , select LPD/LPR. In the printer address box, type ink.math.ncsu.edu/ha245 and in the box for Queue Name type ha245. To print double-sided you will need to select the printer model, HP laserjet 9050 dn.
Now with Tiger, option-clicking the Add button doesn't seem to do anything. Instead, you need to option-click the "More Printers..." button at the bottom of the Printer Browser window that opens when you click Add. The "Advanced" option will now be available in the top drop-down menu of the panel that slides down.If you are on a PC, or a mac using the university system, you will need to contact math support to get access to the printers.
