Windows XP and access to Eos/Unity file space
Windows XP is the latest version of the Microsoft Windows family of Operating
Systems. While it is not yet officially supported at the University, it is
nevertheless in use by a number of faculty members. This document will
explain the steps required to access your AFS home directory as a mapped
drive (K:\) on Windows XP.
The first step is to download the OpenAFS client from the OpenAFS.org web site and install it. The
OpenAFS site has installation instructions for the Windows binary package of
the client; those instructions should be followed closely. Alternately,
you can download the OpenAFS client as built by UNC Chapel Hill from here.
Once the AFS client has been installed, you now need to ensure that the
machine is configured correctly with respect to NetBIOS. To do this, open
the Control Panel, then the "Network Connections" item. Select the adapter
(connection) that is active by single-clicking on it, then right-clicking
and selecting "Properties". Ensure that both "File and Printer Sharing for
Microsoft Networks" and "Client for Microsoft Networks" appear in the box
and are checked (marked active). They should be active by default; if they
are not present and active you will need to install and/or activate them.
