The Mathematics Department believes that professional travel is an important part of preparing students for their future careers. The Department has set aside some Graduate Student Travel funds but they are very limited. The following general guidelines will be followed. Awards will vary with distance to the meeting and other factors but will be around $300. Early submission is encouraged since funds may become depleted before the end of the budget year (June 31).
1. Students requesting funds must do the following.
1a. Fill in and submit the online form for Graduate Student Travel Funds
1b. Provide with this form a written statement of why the trip would be beneficial and how it fits in with their research.
1c. Provide a statement from their research advisor endorsing the trip and stating that there are no research funds to support this trip.
1d. If the meeting or conference has funds available for student travel, the student is required to apply for them and provide a copy of the application.
1e. Apply for funding from the Graduate School.2. In awarding funds the following general guidelines will be followed.
2a. Applicants are expected to have passed qualifiers.
2b. If the conference has contributed papers, then the applicant is expected to have a talk accepted for the conference.
2c. No more than one trip per year is supported.
